Grey & Ductile Iron Castings

Dakota Foundry produces grey and ductile iron castings from ounces up to 5,000 lb. Gray iron (2–4% carbon with graphite flakes) offers great machinability, compressive strength, heat transfer, and vibration damping; we pour classes 30, 35, 40, and 45 at 30–45 ksi tensile and 170–255 BHN. Ductile iron (graphite nodules) delivers steel-like strength and toughness with better ductility; we pour grades 60-40-18, 65-45-12, and 80-55-06 at 60–80 ksi tensile, 40–55 ksi yield, 6–18% elongation, and 143–255 BHN.
